Bio

I live north of Toronto in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada with my husband Simon and daughter, Lily. I am an illustrator/artist and educator.
I grew up in an old church in Big Bay, with the Pop-up Lady for a mom and a Potter/Photographer for a dad. I went to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and the University of Canterbury for illustration, printmaking and electronic art. I have had two children's books published, Fiddleheads and Learn to be a Leader in Recycling. I have also done editorial illustration work as well during my time at NSCAD.
Lately, I have been exploring an early love of mine, 3-D images (shown in my portfolio). I used to spend a great deal of time making tunnel books, which I sold at 1st Hand Gallery in Toronto. These works are quite similar; layers of drawings, on a small scale, like a very tiny stage set or installation.Take a look at my 'process page", to see how I create them, set the lighting and photograph them. I take my inspirations from Victorian curiosities, vintage book illustrations, children's drawings, Edo period prints and set design. I have a few other process images and finished shots at my flickr: www.flickr.com/ellymackay.

I am available for freelance illustration. I am a member of the Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers. If you would like to see my previous work in other styles please get in touch and I will send you a link to some examples.

My artworks for children can be purchased at Evolve Toystore, Meaford and the Sweatpea Wholesome Baby Store, Owen Sound and now through my mini store.

Thanks Kelly for these nice words...
Not only was her work highly creative, she also provided a detailed break down of expenses and always had the project done on time. She is a real pleasure to work withKelly Neall - Ottawa International Animation Festival
